CONCORDIA COLLEGE TO OFFER ACCELERATED BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING –PROGRAM APPROVED BY NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Bronxville, NY—Dr. Susan Apold, Dean of the Division of Nursing at Concordia College, announced recently that the State Education Department has approved Concordia College’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science degree in nursing program. The Accelerated Program is a 15-month, 61 credit post-baccalaureate course of study for college graduates with a degree in a major other than nursing. The program will accept academically strong scholars who desire rapid entry into the nursing profession. Graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam leading to licensure in New York State as Registered Professional Nurses. Passing that test will allow graduates to enter the nursing work force.
"The development of a nursing program at Concordia is a great fit with the College’s mission," Apold says. "The time is right for new and creative models for nursing education. Concordia is the perfect place for individuals interested in a new or second career. The interpersonal dynamic at the College will support the development of intellectually, clinically competent, and personally compassionate nursing professionals
."
The development of a nursing major at the College will meet community needs while strengthening the institution. The national nursing shortage is affecting health care at every level. Regional hospital nursing shortages of 6.62% in the Hudson Valley are slightly above the statewide vacancy rate of 6.38%. While the program will start small, accepting 20 students in the first class, the number of accepted students will grow annually, increasing the number of registered nurses available to provide patient care.
The College is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals. For more information, contact Susan Apold, RN, ANP-BC, PhD at 914-337-9300, x2256 or at susan.apold@concordia-ny.edu. Or click here to visit the Nursing Program page on our web site.
